The Main Draw Ceremony for the 2011 Qatar Ladies Open was held on Saturday evening.
The President of the Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF), Nasser bin Ghanim Al Khelaifi, as well as the QTF Board Members and the Tournament Director, Karim Alami, were all present.
Marion Bartoli (France), Nadia Petrova (Russia), Sania Mirza (India) and Fatma Al Nabhani (Oman) were there to represent the participating Players.
The four top seeds Caroline Wozniacki, Vera Zvonareva, Francesca Schiavone and Na Li were given a first riound bye and will begin their participation in the event on Wednesday in Last 16.
In the first round, Wild Card Fatma Al Nabhani of Oman will take on former world No.1 Jelena Jankovic while Victoria Azarenka will play Daniela Hantuchova.
Another wild card player, Sania Mirza of India will face Maria Kirilenko of Russia in a match expected to attract thousands of fans from the large Indian community who live in Qatar.
Moreover, seventh seed Agnieszka Radwanska (Poland) will meet Lucie Safarova (Czech Republic) and Shahar Peer (Israel) will clash against Svetlana Kuznetsova (Russia).
With 721.000 USD in prize money for grabbing, the Qatar Ladies Open starts Monday 21 February at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. The Qualifying Rounds have started on Saturday and continues on Sunday and Monday.
