December 11, 2012 – Doha, Qatar – The closing ceremony for the ExxonMobil Qatar Youth Nationals tournament took place at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex on Monday, December 10, 2012.
The tournament began on December 3, 2012 in partnership with ExxonMobil, the leader in supporting tennis and community initiatives here in Qatar. The Qatar Tennis Federationtook pride in hosting the only youth event in the country, aiming to enhance Qatar tennis and put young Qatari players on the competition track in order to improve their skills and potentials.
120 boy and girls participated in this one week-long event in different categories including Under10s, Under 12s, Under 14s, and Under 18s.
In a breathtaking doubles final match, Ahmed Rashed and Abdullah Al Juffairy defeated Mohammed Al-Khangey and Jassem Al Mulla 7-6, 6-4, in the Under 18 category.
Sultan Khalfan, local tournaments director at the Qatar Tennis Federation said “The final match saw the best 4 players in this tournament competing brutally, showing all their abilities and potentials, they really added an exciting and competitive element to this match. Qatar is so proud to have such valuable talents who can enhance Qatar’s role not only in local events but also regional and international ones.”
He added, “This tournament is a great goal aimed for all players to participate, they are all so excited for the next season’s ExxonMobil Qatar Nationals Tournament as it is considered a perfect arena to show their talents and skills.”
Tariq Zainal and Saad Al Mohannadi from the Qatar Tennis Federation and Abdullatif Al Naemi, the National Development Manager from ExxonMobil QatarInc., presented the trophies to all the winners, in front of a large crowd of tennis fans.
“Presenting the award to the champions of the ExxonMobil Qatar Youth Nationals tournament is truly one of the highlights of our partnership with the Qatar Tennis Federation,” said Abdullatif Al Naemi. “This competition is really about a commitment to support and develop future Qatari champions, encouraging support and interest for the game of tennis in general, and most importantly promoting healthy active lifestyles among young people.”
The Qatar Tennis Federation believes that this kind of event helps produce future tennis stars who will be able to compete in both local and international tournaments, continuing Qatar’s growth on the international sporting stage.
