Qatar’s Mahmoud and Moussa claimed titles in the Qatar Asian Championships
26 Mar 2010
Second seed Mosa Zayed clinched the title in the under 16 boys finals of the Qatar Asian Championships oN Friday at the courts of the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. Zayed defeated compatriot and Champion of the Qatar Asian Tournament celebrated last week Jabor Al Mutawa. Both playerS had a strong participation in the tournament and for the first time two Qatari players were disputing the title in under 16 boys singles competition. However it was Mousa who sent Jabor crashing out in an encounter that lasted almost two hours. At the final, Mousa dropped 3 games during the first set giving plenty advantage to Jabor – who was expected to win. However Mousa got his game together and a better planned and more aggressive game of Mousa during the second set was not match for his compatriot as Mousa crashed Al Jabor in the second set giving him only the opportunity to win two games. In the third and final set Jabor recovered, but his efforts were insufficient as he was defeated by 7-5 and Mousa claimed the title in the under 16 boys singles competition.

Regardless his lost Jabor is enjoying a great season and remains one of the best tennis players in the country as he was crowned the champion of the under 16 boys singles at the GCC Tournament held in January, reached the finals at the Qatar ITF Junior Open in February and claimed the under 16 boys singles title in the Qatar Asian Tournament last week.

Mosa Zayed was not the only Qatari saving grace for the national team as Abdullah Al- Mahmoud also had an incredible win over Jordanian Daher Said in the under 14 boys singles competition. His win was easier in comparison with Mosa’s as it took Mahmoud  a little bit more than an hour and two sets to crush his opponent by 6-1, 6-3

Top seed Ghada Al Ajeely from Iraq met Nayanika Reedy from India in what it was an not so much exhilarating under 14 girls singles final as expected. Reddy overcame Ghada very quickly and easily posting a 6-0, 6-2 win.

Ali Hadil from Brunei clinched the under 16 girls singles title after defeating Jordanian Lara Aldisi by 6-1, 7-5.
