21 Mar 2010

The Qatar National Team has lot to celebrate as for the first time two Qatari players will dispute the title of the Qatar Asian Championships. At the courts of the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex top seed Jabor Al-Mutawa and second seed Mousa Zayed moved to the finals of the international junior tennis tournament. Both local players went up against strong adversaries in two very tiring matches.

Jabor played up against Jordanian Faisal Al Teell in a prolonged match that saw both players battling it out to win the game. For the first time in the tournament, the Qatari player encountered severe resistance from one of his opponents,  Jabor was never upper than one game from Al Tell until the fourth game when Jabor managed to advance with good strokes and one ace to finish the first set 6-4. During the second set a visible tired Jabor and Al Tell gave spectators a brilliant dosis of great tennis and both players were determined to win. The circumstances during the second set were similar to the first one although it took longer for Jabor to overcome the Jordanian native with a final score of 7-5.

Second seed Mousa Zayed had a harder time trying to defeat Marwan Al Kaissi from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Qatari player lost the first set 4-6 and went into the second set looking tired and a bit unsecured. However the feeling didn’t last long as Mousa recovered his confidence after a few errors made by the Saudi and stroke back with aggressive volley strokes and impeccable approach. Mousa won the second set posting a 6-4 and trashed Al Kaissi in the third and final set 6-0.

Mousa and Jabor will meet during the finals.
In the under 14 girls singles Indian Nayakina Reedy had the easiest of the day against Iraqui Ghada Al Ajeely 6-0, 6-2.
