Davydenko Gets Past Hard Serving Croat
06 Jan 2011
The last semi-final spot was to be decided between Nikolay Davydenko (RUS), and the hard serving giant, Ivo Karlovic (CRO). The two played each other in the same round in last years’ tournament, which Davydenko won in two tie breaks. All four other encounters between the two were also close, which again promised to be an exciting encounter.

In the opening set, Davydenko was able to break Karlovic’s serve in the fourth game, despite being known for his powerful serves. The Russian went on to hold confirm the break, by holding serve to lead 4-1 and took the set 6-3.

The defending champion did not struggle on any of his service games in the second set. He was able to break the Croats serve in the 10th game and was able to then hold serve to win the match 6-3 7-5.

This means that the second semi-final will be a repeat of last year’s final, which Davydenko won 0-6 7-6(8) 6-4.
