Qatar Total Open 2012 Brings World’s Best WTA Players to Doha

• Qatar Total Open will be held February 13 through 19, 2012
• 10th anniversary of tournament will bring top tennis players to Qatar, including Victoria Azarenka, Caroline Wozniacki, Petra Kvitova, Sam Stosur and defending champion, Vera Zvonareva


January 29, 2012 - DOHA, Qatar - This year celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Qatar Total Open and, as a WTA Premier event, will showcase top players competing for the trophy and a share of the multi-million dollar prize money. The 56-player draw has confirmed tournament participants including defending champion Vera Zvonareva, new world No. 1 and 2012 Australian Open winner Victoria Azarenka, Caroline Wozniacki, 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, and reigning US Open champion, Sam Stosur. The tournament will also host the Public Village, VIP Village, player autograph sessions, a traditional Souq and Kid’s Zone and various sponsor and merchandising booths. Ladies Day at the Qatar Total Open 2012 will be held on February 14, 2012 and include clinics, prize giveaways, and special appearances by players.

Nasser Bin Ghanim Al Khelaifi, Qatar Tennis Federation’s President, highlighted to fact of the incredible player field:

The Qatar Total Open has had a rich history in Doha, having had some of the game’s top players come to the desert. Past winners have included: Martina Hingis, Monica Seles, Anastasia Myskina, Maria Sharapova, Nadia Petrova and Justine Henin.

Tournament director, Karim Alami, added the importance of the fact that this year the event has been elevated to a WTA Premier event:

“The Qatar Total Open 2012 is a WTA Premier event this year and shows how important Doha has become on the world sporting stage. Being able to host players of this quality really boosts the profile of the event and we are looking forward to the top players in the game coming here.”
