Nadal Secures spot in the Finals
08 Jan 2010
World No. 2 and second seed Rafael Nadal secured his spot in the finals of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2010. Nadal will play against either World No. 1 Roger Federer or World No. 6 Russian Nikolay Davydenko. It will all depend on the results of the second match of the semifinals.
Victory came to Nadal after one hour and 7 minutes of the game defeating Serbian World No. 29 Viktor Troicki, 6-1, 6-3.
Nadal has lost only 11 games en route to his first semi-final in Doha. He improved to 7-2 lifetime in Doha with 6-1, 2-0 when Belgian Steve darcis retired due to a back injury. Nadal also posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Italian Potito Starace on Wednesday after winning his first match of the tournament against Simone Bolelli during the second day of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2010.
Nadal started his 2009 season incredibly when winning his sixth Grand Slam title at the Australian Open defeating Roger Federer. The success for the Spaniard didn’t stop there; he was a runner-up at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, won his second BNP Paribas Open title at Indian Wells and later on won three consecutive ATP World Tour titles at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters (d. Djokovic), Barcelona Open Banco Sabadell (d. Ferrer) and the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome (d. Djokovic). Nadal was the first player to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals held in London last November at The 02 Indoor Arena in south-east London, which represented his fifth straight qualification (4-4 record) for the circuit-finale.
