Our national men's tennis team began their campaign in the tournament with a 2-1 victory over the Sri Lankan team in the group stage of the Davis Cup 2024 Asia-Oceania Group IV competition, held in Cambodia until July 14.

Qatar's Mubarak Shanan won the first match against his Sri Lankan opponent Apna Perera 1-0. Rashid Nawaf then secured the second match for the team with a 1-0 win over Ashen Silva. However, the Qatari duo of Mishari Nawaf and Moussa Shanan lost the doubles match to the Sri Lankan team of Harshana Godamanne and Thihan Sanjaya Wijemanne 0-1, resulting in an overall decisive victory for Qatar with a score of 2-1.

The national team is scheduled to play its second match today, Thursday, against the UAE team in the group stage.

According to the tournament format, each team must play two singles matches and one doubles match.

The Qatar national team's delegation includes players Moussa Shanan, Mubarak Shanan, Ghanem Al-Sulaiti, Rashid Nawaf, and Mishari Nawaf, along with coach Mounir Al-Araj.

The national team recently concluded a two-week training camp in Thailand, during which they underwent technical and physical training sessions.

The participating teams in the tournament are divided into two groups. Group 1 includes Qatar, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, and the UAE, while Group 2 consists of Cambodia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Myanmar.

The competition format involves each team in the group playing a round-robin. The first and second-place teams will advance to the semifinals, which will be played in a knockout format. The winner of Group 1 will play the runner-up of Group 2, and the winner of Group 2 will play the runner-up of Group 1. The two winning teams will qualify for Group III of the Davis Cup in 2025. The teams that finish seventh and eighth will be relegated to Group V, while the other teams will retain their places in Group IV.
