Qatar Men's Tennis Team Kicks Off Davis Cup 2024 Campaign Against Sri Lanka

Today (Wednesday), the Qatar men's tennis team begins its journey in the Davis Cup 2024 Asia-Oceania Group IV competition in Cambodia with a match against Sri Lanka in the group stage.
The Qatar national team's delegation includes players Moussa Shanan, Mubarak Shanan, Ghanem Al-Sulaiti, Rashid Nawaf, and Mishari Nawaf, in addition to coach Mounir Al-Araj.
The national team recently concluded a two-week training camp in Thailand, during which they underwent technical and physical training sessions.
The participating teams in the tournament, which runs until July 14, are divided into two groups. Group 1 includes Qatar, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, and the UAE, while Group 2 consists of Cambodia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Myanmar.
In a statement, Khaled Al-Khelaifi, a board member of the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Badminton, and Padel Federation and chairman of the national teams committee, expressed his confidence in the entire team to give their best and achieve honorable results. He noted that the federation, under the leadership of Nasser bin Ghanem Al-Khelaifi, fully supports the national players in their mission to qualify for Group III of the Davis Cup in 2025.
He emphasized that the federation ensured the team was well-prepared through an external training camp in Thailand, which will help them deliver strong performances and achieve the desired results.
The competition format in this tournament involves each team in the group playing a round-robin. The first and second-place teams will advance to the semifinals, which will be played in a knockout format. The winner of Group 1 will play the runner-up of Group 2, and the winner of Group 2 will play the runner-up of Group 1. The two winning teams will qualify for Group III of the Davis Cup in 2025. The teams that finish seventh and eighth will be relegated to Group V, while the other teams will retain their places in Group IV.
