Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev announces his absence from the Qatar ExxonMobil Open tennis tournament.
Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev, the defending champion, has announced his inability to participate in the 2024 Qatar ExxonMobil Open tennis tournament due to not being 100% ready.
In an official statement, he expressed regret for not being able to participate in the tournament due to his incomplete readiness, apologizing to the organizing committee and the fans. Medvedev added that he always loves participating in tournaments held in Doha and receives exceptional treatment, and he had hoped to be present in this year's edition to defend the title, but he will not be able to due to his incomplete readiness.
Earlier, Spanish player Rafael Nadal also apologized for not participating in the Qatar Open tennis tournament due to needing more time to recover from an injury.
Nadal wrote on his official X account that he wished to play in Doha due to the great support he receives when participating in the tournament, and he remembers well the wonderful atmosphere he experienced when he won the title in 2014. However, he will not be able to participate in this year's edition due to his desire to fully focus on recovering from the injury.
It is worth mentioning that the Qatar Open tennis tournament for men will be held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex from February 19 to 24.
