The training camp of the Qatari men’s tennis team in preparation for the 2019 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group III will be concluded in Singapore today as the event will be held from June 26-29.
The training camp which lasted for 12 days included intensified training sessions to help the Qatari players in their preparation for the event to be staged on hard courts.
2019 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group III will feature the participation of Qatar, Kuwait, Iran, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Vietnam and Singapore.
The participating teams will be divided into two groups where Vietnam will lead the first group while Iran will lead the second one.
As per the ITF rules the participating teams in the 2019 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group III will be divided into two groups where the winners and runners-up will qualify to Group II.
The Qatari delegation is chaired by Ahmed Sultan Al Obaidly and includes Mousa Shanan, Mubarak Shanan, Rayyan Alami, Rashed Nawaf and the team captain Sultan Khalfan in addition to the head coach Oliver Gross, fitness coach Luis Lobez and physiotherapist Alex.
Khalid Al Khelaifi, Board Member of the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation and head of national teams’ committee said, “The federation developed a strong training program for the national team in preparation for Davis Cup to help the players achieve their goals”
Al Khelaifi expressed his confidence that the men’s team will do their best to live up the expectations of the federation and qualify to group II in 2020.
He also stressed that the Qatari team began their training program early in Doha as the players participated in some ITF futures tennis tournaments in addition to a huge number of training camps organized at the courts of the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation.
For his part, Ahmed Al Obaidli said that the Qatari team held a successful training camp as the Qatar Tennis Federation aims at providing the players with opportunity to get used to the atmosphere and prepare for the event.
Al Obaidli thanked the officials of the Qatari embassy in Singapore their efforts in facilitating the procedures for the Qatari delegation which will move to the tournament’s hotel today.
He also stressed that the players are confident that can qualify to the second group after reaching the semifinals last year.
