Qatar’s Rashed Nawaf claimed the title of ITF Asia 14 & Under Closed Championships organized by the Qatar Tennis Federation in cooperation with Asian Tennis Federation at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
In the final match of boys singles event, Nawaf defeated Ayushmaan Arjeria of India 6-2 6-3.
In the semifinals, Nawaf edged past Kwok Shun Dasson Chan of Hong Kong 6-1 6-1.
Man Wai Chloris Li of Hong Kong hoisted the trophy of girls singles event following her victory over her compatriot Lok Shu Tang.
Moreover, the Indian duo of Ayushmaan Arjeria and Arunava Majumder took the first place in boys doubles event after beating Kwok Shun Dasson Chan and Max Shun Wang Kwok of Hong Kong in the final match.
Tareq Zainal, Secretary General of the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation attended the medal ceremony.
After the final match, Zainal said “We are proud that Qatar’s Rashed Nawaf was crowned Asian champion as the Federation is doing whatever does it takes to promote and develop tennis in the state of Qatar”
Zainal wished all the best for other team Qatar players who will participate in the second ITF Asia 14 & Under Closed Championships to begin on Monday.
The first ITF Asia 14 & Under Closed Championships began at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex last week with the participation of 60 players.
