World No. 8 Dominic Thiem arrived on Sunday for the Qatar ExxonMobil Tennis Open 2019 to be held from December 31, 2018 to January 5 at the Khalifa Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha.
The Austrian was received at the Hamad International Airport by top officials of the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation (QTSBF) led by Tournament Director Karim Alami.
Second-seed Thiem, who pulled out of the last tournament with flu just hours before his semi-final match against Frenchman Gael Monfils, is among the top favourites at this year’s event.
The 25 year-old player made his debut appearance in Doha at the 2014 edition where he made it through the three rounds of qualifying to get a place in the main draw, but lost to Peter Gojowczyk in the first round.
Qatar ExxonMobil Open, which has featured some of the biggest name in tennis down the years, is seen as the curtain raiser for the ATP tour.
Tickets for the event are currently on sale online at www.qatartennis.org or onsite at the City Centre, Landmark and Villaggio malls.
